The origins of the text resting under his hands are unknown and mysterious. Some have claimed that the Chaldean Oracles, in the form in which they survive, were attributed to Julian the Theurgist, son of Julian the Chaldean, who served in the Roman army during Marcus Aurelius' campaign against the Quadi. The circumstances surrounding the writing of the Oracles are mysterious; the most likely explanation being that Julian uttered them after inducing a sort of trance akin to that of the archaic oracles of Greece.

Whether or not they were composed by Julian or whether they are in any sense translations from supposed Chaldean originals matters very little to the infernalist who finds wisdom in the poetic words. Hecate separates the two 'fires,' the purely intellectual fire of the Father, and the material fire from which the cosmos are created.

These words have been churned to pieces by the blossoming darkness lurking within him. Interpretation was often the cause of conflict. What one might read and find truth in, may seem to be fairy tales to another. In these words Aidan saw his climb towards his dark pursuits made easier by a wealth of knowledge not yet passed down to him. There was a barrier to be broken to gain the knowledge he sought. His perverse mind had dangerously twisted the Chaldean text to suit his own desires. To gain intellect he would breech the barrier between his mind and that of Christian, his sire, the father of his immortality.

Over time Christian had left a very dark impression upon Aidan’s withering humanity. Such was the path of every infernalist, to corrupt. And, he had been very successful in his deed. Perhaps too successful. This world was no longer enough for Aidan.

From the doorway piercing blue eyes gazed upon Aidan reading the text. He was silent as he watched his student study the words.

“Do you believe this is true?” Asked Aidan to his sire, his narrowed eyes never leaving the frail pages.

Christian’s steps held no real purpose as he strolled into the room, arms folding over his chest. His head shaking slowly from side to side. “No I do not.” He paused, his arms unfurling to caresses the yellowed parchment. “Do you?”

Aidan sighed wearily, flipping the book closed as he straightened up. “That is not our way, is it? To believe? To have faith…” As he spoke the conniver began to slowly pace across the warm wood floors. “We make our way through knowledge. Truth. Not fairy tales.”

Knowledge Christian possessed and did not share. Not entirely at least. Aidan had learned enough to begin to carve his own path. The road had already led him to many a dark and dangerous place, he had already crossed paths with the feared and loathed Baali, an association that he carefully guarded. Their secrets were becoming his.

There are worlds beyond worlds and places beyond space and time; the Baali shatter the boundaries between such zones of cosmic terror and the mundane world. Just a sliver of the Great Gulf Beyond, the Abyss, is all one would need to trap a powerful mind into a state of catatonia. This is never to be used lightly, for even the masters of Daimoinon fear what they might see -- or what might see them. Aidan fears living in the shadow of his sire far more then the demons that may catch sight of him from beyond the veil of this world.

With a few carefully chosen words spoken under his breath Aidan tore cracks in the walls of reality. Like the fault lines of a massive earthquake, the air in front of him shook and cracked with energy. Through those cracks came the sights, sounds, smells and other aspects of existence outside of reality as most know it. Blasphemous whispers, a charnel stench and the howls of the damned erupted the peaceful reprieve of the room. Lightening-like fissures tore apart the fabric of this reality only to show the unstitched mess of the next-horrible and cruel world. Christian’s face twisted in a mask of anguish, his skin pinching like wet clay slapped against wall. Tears of blood rushed to the corners of his eyes, marring him like some sort of unholy artifact. And like a statue, he could not move, his voice only brave enough to mutter unintelligible words. Christian was trapped in the nightmare that his childe had unleashed upon him.

The trap had been sprung most successfully, thanks to yet another ritual he would come to rely upon heavily through out his unlife, one that cloaked his mind and thus his secrets. It was in this moment of catatonic terror that Aidan made his move. There was no time to second guess his decision, already he had shown Christian too much, the power he envoked was not of the clan Tremere. Aidan’s dangerous liaison would be revealed if he did not follow through…

Into the soft flesh of the distinguished, stunned man, his fangs dove. Prying loose the viate that gave life to his infernal teacher. All of it. His secrets, his life, pieces of his very soul.

Out of Character (OOC) knowledge: Although Aidan was turned for his magical knowledge, discoveries and prowess, word spread up the pyramid that he had a knack for networking among the magically inclined clans. No one knows what happened when he was summoned to a meeting in Paris. Some Tremere say that the Lord of France channeled the wishes of the European Pontifice that he infiltrate, befriend or somehow barter (without actually giving them anything of value or worth) magical information from Kindred of other clans. Others say that he was to network with the Tremere of the East and bring that knowledge back to Paris. Others say that he was demoted. Could it be both? And would being demoted actually serve his needs for secrecy without the intense scrutiny of other pyramid climbing piranha-like Tremere while he continued to delve deeper in his dark ambitions? Is he just a spy with a good cover for the Tremere? Or has he become corrupted by his own ends and willing to trade Tremere secrets (and if he does, are those secrets actually worth anything?) for more power? Then there are rumors within the Tremere that he has been corrupted by other clans like the Baali and other infernalists. And, if so, how loyal is he to the Tremere? Will he betray them for his ultimate transformation to attain power? No one seems to know the truth.

There are, of course, the other rumors circling around Tremere circles. Some say that one of the original Council Members was, in fact, himself an infernalist. If this is true than much of the pyramid is also corrupt and this dribbles down to encompass the rumors surrounding Aidan, who, some say, is the progeny of this Council Member, or, at least, working for him. Again, not even Aidan's closest associates know the truth of any of this.

Purpose: There are other ways to climb the pyramid then drudging along and doing the grunt work of your superiors. While the Tremere concern themselves with silly Camerilla politics, Aidan has been busy coming up with a new ritual that merges Hermetic understanding of magic and demonology that will circumvent those annoying infernal pacts. However, he needs the book of Nominis Inferni to learn the True Name of the demon he wants to use in his final plot. A plot that he hopes will change him from the inside and out.

Whatever the truth in the above, Aidan will progress the clans ambitions and motivations but, always take the opportunity to advance his own within that scheme. Slowly, the Tremere's leaders (Marc especially) seen to be bearing down at him.

He is an aficionado of the occult and hates having knowledge withheld from him.

Personality: Jealous, vindictive, sarcastic, intelligent, scheming. However, he is also attentive, lavishing affection to those he deems are deserving, but that turns possessive many times. Multi-faceted, he has no problem helping you one day and hindering you the other, no matter how much he likes one. His indoor voice is softer than one might think, but with a constant undercurrent of intentionally obvious feigned sweetness that drowns itself in sarcasm and cynicism. The truth of his disingenuous endearment often shines in his eyes, which is why he is often taken with speaking the blunt truth since people often can see through his words. Unfortunately, as a result, not many have a taste for his company even though he keeps up a somewhat diplomatic countenance. His language is polished and flourished, reminiscent of past times. He speaks with a clipped cold accent to his words, but does not have a heavy French accent when he speaks English or any other language.

Name: Aidan Vilantrie
Nature: Visionary-Conniver
Embrace: 1322, 14th Century
Demeanor: Curmudgeon
Clan: Tremere

Generation: sixth generation
Concept: Having broken with traditional Tremere ranks for the most part, his only route to survival and advancement is by making a niche for himself with his specialized skills. Aidan used to pander his magical prowess with all the insistence of a jaded street hustler who sees others like flies that need their wings ripped out, even though he maintained a veneer of civility towards them, at least, until he sweeps the power from under them. To get ahead, he will have to continue sharpening his skills and become more indispensable then the loathing that comes with the rumors surrounding him, while at the same time seeming harmless to the rest of the Tremere--good luck with that.
Alignment: Sinner
House: Horned Society (allows non-Kindred members. Ultra-secretive)

Historical Context: Aidan's father's side of the family, originating from Rome, came to find itself in France when the Empire's Julius Caesar defeated the Gauls. Born in 1289AD, his traditions were soaked in a plethora of religious rites of the day and oral traditions passed down from his mother's side of the family. His mother descended from Mesopotamia and had already been branded to be used by the Baali who, rumours say, had unleashed the plague that spread throughout the world. Her traditions were never written down and it was a good thing considering the social and religious context at the time. "France in the 1300's was a grim dark stain of human suffering. The 14th Century was a time of turmoil, diminished expectations, loss of confidence in institutions, and feelings of helplessness at forces beyond human control. What scholars call the "little ice age" occurred in Europe and In France crops failed after heavy rains in 1315; there were widespread famine, reports of cannibalism, and epidemics". This was also the century of Black Death and France was not spared its undo suffering. By January 1348 it penetrated France via Marseille, and it spread westward from Marseille through the ports of Languedoc and northward up the Rhone to Avignon, where it arrived in March. It reached Narbonne, Montpellier, Carcassonne, and Toulouse between February and May, and at the same time in Italy spread to Rome and Florence and their hinterlands. Between June and August it reached Bordeaux, Lyon, and Paris, spread to Burgundy and Normandy, and crossed the Channel. France was also drowning in the Seven Years War (1337-1450). In these dark times the church was hardly a comfort and institutions were failing as well.

It was in this excrement of human suffering that Aidan was born, raised and made Cainite. Let us say that it left an indelible stain on him.

Background: Despite the dearth of mathematical and scientific query in these times, Aidan--gifted with an avant-garde visionary intelligence-- was a mathematician, astronomer, astrologer, occultist. He also devoted much of his life to the study of alchemy, divination, and Hermetic philosophy. His passion was to decipher and reconstitute the teachings by the Pythagorean Cults based on a scroll that he received by a fellow enthusiast who never agreed on a meeting of minds unless it was at night. Working obsessively on the scroll, Aidan was able to decipher it and learn of its teachings, which seemed to please his fellow enthusiast. However, one night the scroll vanished and Aidan was so infuriated that he stormed into the mans home close to sunset ready to accuse him of thievery (and do much worse). What he found was a room filled with the most blasphemous arcane texts on the occult, math, philosophy, astronomy and magic that were not known to the world at that time. His fingers curled around the Nominis Inferni, a hardbound pamphlet of sorts and he ran.Two oddly peaceful nights fell where he could read the fragment on demonology. Within it, it contained references to The Abyss and True Names for several diabolic entities, but also one being of at least archdemon status. These things he did not understand. On the third night, while he was feverishly copying the text, the man who he had stolen it from simply appeared in his house holding the Pythagorean scroll. "You have a thirst for knowledge." He said. "I will give you something to rival that."

And so began Aidan's unlife among the Tremere.

Disciplines:

Aidan has the following abilities based on his clan 'birthrights' so-to-speak and practice:

  I. Auspex is a Discipline that grants vampires supernatural senses. It is one of the most common and favored Discipline  among Cainites due to its versatility and overall usefulness in just about every facet of vampiric existence. In   addition to  the individual powers granted at each level, Auspex allows someone the opportunity to see through illusions, such as from Obfuscate or Chimerstry, so long as the user possess at least an equal mastery in Auspex as the Discipline in question. Furthermore, it has been known to grant some degree of oracular ability, particularly when alerting a Cainite to danger, even if they are in torpor. Loud noises can be very disturbing.
  • Heightened Senses: This ability allows the vampire to double the range of its sight, hearing, and smell. Its senses of touch and taste, however, become much more accute. Very rarely vampires with this discipline will display precognititive abilities. The downside of using Heightened Senses is that something that jars the senses, such as a thunderclap or a bright light, could blind or deafen the vampire for quite some time.
  • Aura Perception: Everything in the World of Darkness has an Aura. With this ability the vampire is able to perceive these auras to gain hints about the nature and attitude of the subject in question.
  • The Spirit's Touch: If someone has handled an object an imprint is left upon it. A vampire with this discipline is able to sense these imprints and glean useful information from them.
  • Telepathy: This is fairly straightforward. A vampire with Telepathy is able to create a mind link between itself and a mortal. With great effort it is capable to connect with vampires.
  • Psychic Projection: This power is essentially astral projection. It allows the vampire to project its consciousness and wander throughout the world as an astral body. Of course, while it is doing this the vampire's body is defenseless so it is rare that a vampire will take a long journey in this way.
Descriptions have slight variation from the VtM RP book source of information, which is used as the prime reference.
